Maybe at 16 you thought it’d be a great idea to get your favourite band or your partner’s name tattooed on your arm. 20 years on and you get some very strange looks in the gym. Hanson just isn’t as cool as they used to be, and the teenage love of your life has long-since moved on.

Why not save yourself anymore embarrassment and get the offending body art removed. The process of removing tattoos has improved a lot over the years – no more burning away the tattoo or using acids – the laser tattoo removal system is a much safer and more effective method.

Body art and tattoo removal methods Tattoo Removal

There are many reasons why you might want a tattoo removed. Once this would have been impossible, tattoos were permanent and couldn’t be removed. As knowledge and technology progressed, methods of tattoo removal were discovered. Early methods included injecting or applying wine, lime, garlic or even pigeon excrement. As you can imagine none of these were particularly effective.

More modern methods include dermabrasion (a type of surgical skin planing), using acid and literally cutting the unwanted tattoo out. The problem with these methods is that they are pretty invasive, and would require anaesthetic to carry out, and would need many weeks if not months of healing.

And finally, Laser treatment is the safest method of tattoo removal. It’s a fast procedure and requires minimal healing time.

How does laser tattoo removal treatment work?

Laser tattoo removal explained articleIn laser tattoo removal, a laser is directed at the tattoo. This breaks down ink particles within the skin. This broken-down ink is then absorbed back into the body. It takes time for the body to break down the ink particles so multiple sessions are recommended with plenty of rest between.

Tattoo removal isn’t 100% guaranteed, however if the ink has penetrated too deep into the skin then there is the possibility of some visibility, faint though it may be. Surprisingly it’s the dark colours that are most effectively removed, whilst lighter colours can occasionally be problematic.

Is laser tattoo removal painful?

Having a tattoo removed by a laser can be a slightly painful process, it feels similar to having an elastic band fired at your skin continuously. However, the pain is tolerable and only short-lived lasting the duration of the process with minimal post session soreness.
